What is Musical Theatre Company?

Musical Theatre is a form of theatrical performance that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. The story and emotional content of a musical are communicated through these three performance genres. Since the early 20th century, musical theatre stage works have generally been called, simply, musicals. The Musical Theatre Program at BAPA is an exciting and fun choice for any performer, with lots to choose from! We ask that all students have a passion for at least one of the skill areas, acting, singing, dance (jazz and/or tap) and they will receive training in all three! There are so many wonderful options to choose from at BAPA for Musical Theatre. Musical Theatre is Miss Marsha’s passion so there really is something for everyone!

Musical Theatre Show Company (MTSC) Fall Show Frozen Jr.

MTSC AUDITIONS: Tuesday 6th thru Saturday 17th August - in regular class time. Please check age schedule for times.

This is an exciting and fun choice for any performer, you get to take class and perform on stage. We have two shows per season - a Fall and Spring Musical. The Fall show splits the companies by age, we have a Junior Company Musical (ages 5 - 12 years) and a Senior Company Musical (ages 13 through adult).

The Spring Musical is a huge affair - everyone gets to perform together and we always choose an epic musical extravaganza… past shows include Shrek, Les Miserables, Addams Family, Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan, Aladdin, Into the Woods, Oliver, Seussical, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast amongst others.

Our Musical Theatre Classes are a terrific way for your actor to really learn their craft. Once you join us in Musical Theatre Company, you will feel that you are part of a family. We work in a very holistic fashion all students are equally valued, all performers will have an opportunity to SHINE! We aim to raise students skills levels, confidence, improve their ability to work as part of a team, whilst all the time they are having fun! Ultimately it’s all about stage time, being in the show, becoming a star!

MUSICAL THEATRE COMPETITION (MTC) AUDITIONS

MTC - Access Broadway National Award Winning Musical Theatre Company

AUDITIONS:  Wednesday 7th & 14th August 4:30 - 6:00 5 - 8 years / 5:30 - 7:00 9 - 12 years

Entry into MTC Company is by audition, this involves dancing and singing. Everyone takes part in a dance call and students can choose their own song to sing. Competition classes take place on Wednesdays, and are grouped by age - 5 - 8 year olds / 9 - 12 year olds / Teens. You do not have to be a member of Musical Theatre Show Company to participate in Competition, although often students take part in both. You do have to absolutely LOVE musical theatre; students often have one skill area that is stronger than the others, but once in our program you will be shocked by how much progress you can make! All Competition students must take at least one dance class.

Each class will perform two group pieces at the Access Broadway Competition, which takes place here in Atlanta in March each year. In addition to taking the competition class students must also take one dance technique class, this can be jazz, tap, modern, ballet. We have lots of opportunities for your performer to advance their triple threat skills!

MTC started competing in 2013. In 2016 we took 60 students to nationals in New York City and performed on Broadway, at a theatre right in the heart of Times Square; right next door to the Lion King! What an incredible once in a lifetime experience, our students as always were exceptional.

I am thrilled to say we went on to win Access Broadway National Competition in 2017!

This season promises to be the best yet; it will involve hard work, but great rewards and progress are the result!

JUNIOR THEATRE FESTIVAL (JTF) AUDITIONS

JTF - MLK Weekend every year in Atlanta / JTF AUDITIONS:  By appointment only, deadline 1st July.

Please contact Marsha@bapa.us for info.

WHAT IS JTF? In essence it is a two day musical theatre festival with 6,500+ participants.

Actors perform one show, it has to be a Junior show we have performed and they present a 15 minute version. This is adjudicated by 2 professionals in the industry who give immediate feedback, and workshop sections of the show. Actors then have a debrief to discuss their experience.

In addition actors attend the following workshops: dance / acting / vocals. They have the option to attend theatre technical workshops, and there are numerous shows, discussions, demos, karaoke, discos etc. throughout the week-end.  They will see performers from Broadway, see talks given by composers, dancers, playwrights, producers… this really exposes your child to every area of the industry. It is a festival like no other, and incredible experience your child will remember forever! What this short video for more info:
